I think what you`re proposing sounds like a cooperative, or "Co-op."

In such a food store, people would become members. They each would bring to the building a product, say...corn or apples or chickens. The building would be the "store."

Customers might come and pay money for the food, and pay cash. But members could also barter at some acceptable exchange rate. So perhaps 5 ears of corn might equal 1 chicken.

The problem is how to pay for the building, utilities, maintenance, and license fees.

The solution is that non-members can pay cash, and would get prices slightly below other stores. Members could pay cash, or they could barter.

If the co-op makes cash, that money would apply to the running of the building. At first, no members would receive a share. But if the business succeeds, bringing in a lot of cash, then that money could go to advertising. Finally, whatever was "extra" could be divided by the members.

No, I`m not concerned about whether you`re farmers or airline pilots. I`m saying that a co-op kind of venture offers a business model that can sometimes work in a difficult economy.

When people are unemployed, they end up at the survival level of the pyramid of needs. That means food, water, shelter, clothing.

Newbie’s to small business need a support group. So, find reliable small business owners who would drive you in a healthy path and can help you in avoiding pitfalls they have learned from. Owning your own small business can be very rewarding but there is no reason to go it alone.
