Hello

Can someone tell me what is the TOTAL cost of opening a subway, lets say i can have 180 to 260k, is that enough for a start, and the money will be from a friend, a close friend, but im still not sure is that enough for a start. Im talkin about a subway in UK, not USA, so thats about 130 to 170k.

If there is someone from UK or know something about a subways in UK pleas post me more info.

And im not from UK, im a foreigner but i am from EU

I have been following this whole thread and would like to add an insight from a different point of view. I eat at subway. I admit it. But like most people that do we realize the food is mediocre. The meats and cheese have little flavor. Once we try other sub shops like Togo,s or quizno,s and find the specials there are no more than subway we feel cheated. The bread at subway is fine. The service is good and most stores are clean and well located. The franchises seem to be well run and prices for the most part reasonable. Why is the taste just not there? If subway could only ramp its quality of meats and cheeses to those of higher end sub shops they would really have something. I don,t mean for this post to bash subway but I think its important for potential owners to know that the subway sandwich really is inferior as far as taste goes. I took an early retirement offer 9 years ago from ATT and at the time was looking to invest some retirement cash. I investigated subway to the point that the only reason I couldn,t pull the trigger was I wasn,t sold on the product. I held on until this last year when I invested in rental properties. It goes to prove that there is something for everyone out there.-  j

To Mrfranchiseman,

and everyone else.

Thank you for all the great info on this topic.  I presently live in philippines, there are 13 stores in the entire country.  I am considering opening a franchise here, the few stores i have been to here are less than 500 square feet and rent on them is typically about 1500 dollars a month.  Payroll is a joke here running about 10 dollars a day per employee.  However, the two sites i have looked at, both want 8 percent of gross revenue as well as rent.   So am thinking that offsets the cheap labor cost.  Also it appears the 5 dollar promo doesnt apply here however they do run daily promo's, assuming those are to rid themself of stock near end date.  The culture of fast food here is different than i have ever seen anywhere, shopping malls will have three to five starbucks and two or three kfc's in the same mall. the store i most recently visited had 20 customers come in 15 minute period at 8 pm on a friday night in a low foot traffic area of a mall annex.  I am working up a proposal based on an average of 100 customers a day and after payouts it seems the profit would be minimal.  However i do not know exact food costs and working on a basis of 30 percent, 16 percent to subway and the mall, 10 percent to wages, 25 percent to utilities, equipment, lease.  Does this sound like i am on the right track?  That would leave about 20 percent for profit and items i am overlooking.  Again thanks for all the info here and have a great day.

Does anyone know if there is a particular website that shows all the subway restaurants for sale locally as well as  globally?

My website posts what I have access to at www.mrfranchiseman.com

Subway discourages such postings from brokers

Not all stores that are for sale are identified as such for internal reasons. The ones that are on the Subway website are of poor performance and you take your chances.

I have developed methodology to access some of these hidden gems that are out there, and have some success at it, but it is time consuming, requires discipline and an ability to talk to owners. As a previous owner of 9 Subway stores and as a former Development Agent, I know how to achieve this as long as you are a qualified and approved buyer.

I would like an opinion from experienced owners!

If rent is 5K per month.

What would the average weekly store sales have to be to break even?

Assuming taxes, food costs, labor costs, utilities,  etc were averaged out.

BREAK EVEN ON A 5,000 RENT PER MONTH IS 5,000 A WEEK IN SALES, THAT IS AS AN OWNER WORKING 40 HOURS A WEEK AND NO DEBT PAYMENTS

I checked this information on this site Gallitin.....I could not disagree with you more. Barely written in comprehendible English, and some facts are wrong. Does not even answer the question...so what are you talking about?
