I think, Both are important. SMO is the part of SEO. But SMO, getting traffic and ranking is very difficult

I think Both techniques have there own importance ,you can't deny the fact that seo as well as smo both have a great importance in internet marketing.

According to my opinion both are important. SEO and SMO is a different ways to increase your site. In SEO you can do ON page and Off page work. In SMO you can add your business and also provide your business quality. You can do SMO like Facebook, Twitter, My space, Bebo etc...

Search engine optimization is simply the practice of making your website or blog more accessible to both search engines and search engine users; in other words, you’re making it easier for them to find you.

In my opinion, Both (seo and smo) are important. As they both bring business to you. But if i have to pick only one option then it has to be seo. There is no substitute for getting listed in organic ranking.

SEO is much more important for the site existence at all. Good SEO helps to increase PR. SMO is mostly useful for marketing purposes. With good SMO you'll easily promote anything you'd like to and more people could be attracted.
