hi - I'm new here - so hoping that I'm posting in the right location. I've been working on my 'elevator' speech for a couple of days and would like some feedback. I guess if I were to say this to you - what would be your first question back to me?

Hello, I am Janice Bennett, a systems business coach. I work with women business owners who dread the administrivia, struggle to meet deadlines, have to-do lists a mile long and basically feel like their business now owns them.

I know what it’s like to think that as a small business owner you have to do everything yourself, there’s not enough money to hire, no one else could do it the way it needs to be done, or there’s not enough time to train someone. And then top it all off by not having enough hours in the day.

I am able teach business owners how to create systems designed to suit their needs so that they can hire the help they require, complete projects on time and get back the business they desire. And as a result they do what they do best.

Janice,

How, where and to whom do you intend to use this pitch?

Is it the answer to "what do you do", or the "stand up and introduce yourself" or ?

One very hard-learned (and still learning) lesson is to not talk about what you do, who you are, etc. It kind of gets glazed over and turns into the teacher from peanuts: "Mwuah muwah muwha muwm mwhah ..."

Instead focus on the problems that you are providing solutions to. i.e. Stressed out (small) business owners- you're overwhelmed, you need help, and you don't know where to start? Here's the answer to all you're troubles...

OKay so that is crap copy right there, but you get the idea!

Good luck!

Hi Janice

Here are just a few suggestions I would make:

Somewhere in the above paragraphs, you also need to define “system business coach.”

Janice:

Here is a great formula for developing an elevator pitch that I was taught.

I HELP……. (describe your specific prospect)

WHO ………(describe their specific problem)

ACHIEVE/GET…….(describe a specific result)

IN/WITH/WITHOUT……(give a time frame or a convenience factor)

Here’s an example:

I help overweight women who want to lose more than 20lbs. get rid of the extra body fat in as little as 90 days without using startvation diets or military exercises.

The point is to describe what you do( the problem you solve) and who you do it for is as clear and compeling a fashion as possible. Once you’ve hooked you listener then you will have the chance to talk about who you are.

I hope this helps.
