Hey all,

I am debating taking on a really massive project... well, massive for me anyway... that would entail managing all aspects of graphics production for a congressional political campaign. I already know from working with this guy on a previous, local-level campaign that his guardian angels are Panic, Fear and Chaos.... basically, the only way I would undertake this job is if I can define a workflow at the outset and herd everyone into it from day one. Including and especially the technophobes in the group.

So my question is this... is anyone here using a virtual workflow solution that you like, and that might port over to political campaigning pretty easily? Why do you like it?

I`ve used Basecamp for collaborating on specific projects but never as an actual workflow tool... there`s no real ticketing system there, which is key -- I need that to manage progress of the individual campaign assets. If you`ve used Basecamp in this capacity I`d be interested to hear about it.

If you use something besides Basecamp I`d be interested to hear about that too.

Thanks,
—paula

We use Basecamp for managing and building our startup comic strip site.  It`s been great, I think.  I don`t quite understand what you mean by a "ticketing system".  You`re talking about some sort of money management right?

There is a site called Blinksale which is primarily for invoicing and integrates with Basecamp.  I have no idea if it fits your use but I thought I would mention it.  We also use a service called Tiki which is more for bug tracking but it goes to show that there are various companies out there making solutions that add to Basecamp`s functionality.

No, a ticketing system... like a "job jacket".... in a meatspace environment, a "ticket" compiles all the critical info about a job into a single sheet and travels with the job through all its stops along the way to being completed. When a new person picks up the job, they can look at the ticket and see exactly what needs to be done, when it`s due, all the contact infos, whose approvals they need to get, where it`s been and who they need to pass the job on to when they`re done with their part... stuff like that. I need some kind of digital version of this so that all of us scattered around the state can work virtually without sending me a hundred thousand emails a day.

We`ve only begun to delve into Tiki that I mentioned above so I don`t have much experience with it yet.  It is also a task tracker and you can change the person who is assigned to it throughout the life of the task, as well as expand upon the tasks.  It`s sort of like an expanded version of Basecamp`s to-do lists.  It might be too simple for your needs but that`s the best recommendation I have since I haven`t had to manage "tickets" the way you are describing.

I use central desktop for our projects. It has worked well for us.
