Hi, I'm new to business, if you can even call it that. I have an idea for a video game, except a lot of the concepts aren't from me, but from a series or franchise of an already existing game. What I'm doing is adding things, making a story, and re-inventing the series and I can do that and not ruin the other games because of how the games themselves are "set up". I'm coming closer to finishing it, so I'm getting a little worried how I can give them credit for what they did, and I can get credit for my ideas. I've spent some time on this and it's something I would really like to see come together, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

For that I would contact the developers of the original game and tell them about it for starters and add in some credits that highlight them(developers) as well and showing props to the other people who you got some of the ideas from. This would be important if you’re going to be making money with this game. Also you might want to get some legal advise before you release especially if its the latter.

You don't want to get sued. Just my thoughts as people sue for anything these days and copying someone else idea and making a profit from it would raise some eyebrows so do some research and protect yourself.
