hi guys,

this is rather raw and i think it could be spin off to something.

i was playing with google earth the other day. and really having fun by looking at the places that we knew but never been there.

and suddenly this thought strikes me: why isn`t anyone using google earth for real world purpose other than web based mashup?

So as a habit of having a question i always try to think of solutions for the question.

So here is what i have in mind:
1. Education -  i hated Geography during my young school date. i have a very good grade for all my subject in high school but always nearly fail Geography. i guess the main reason is the boring way of delivering from our education system.
So here is the idea -  use google earth to teach Geography. i would be more than happy to sit in the front roll. Best part, google earth did have a collaboration with Wikipedia and National Geographic(which once realised me that geography can be interesting).

2. Tourism - Everybody is doing the own map system but have any Tourism Organization to make use of google earth? This is kind of strange that the technology is there and the detail level is tremendous and still every tourism organization still think they can do a better map system then that.(sigh!)

think of the bookmark system within google earth(if you ever use google earth). the tourism company can pre-bookmark all the location of the day with color-coded(day1-green, day2-blue,...) and let the tourist know where they are heading to. and that might minimize the wasted time of waiting for the lost one to come back. and the free and easy hour can be more meaningful and tourist can have a sense of security by knowing the detail location where they are and how long it took them to go to the next meeting spot.(well, it s more than that, you know what i mean...)

3. humanity -  ok this is kind of vague, but over the weekend i watched a google video on the talk of the developer of google earth sharing the philosophy behind the whole application idea, which trace back to 1969 when Mr. Neil Amstrong took the pictures of Earth, and stated something like(not in exact words but you know the drill):
everyone should take a look at the earth from the top(space), and all the big things will become so minute and our perspective for everyday life will be way different after that.
Thus, google earth. "because we cannot send everyone to space, but we can develop a similar application and let people download for free and experience what Neil Amstrong once experience..." said the developer during the talk.

you may ask: so what is the business idea?? frankly, I don`t know. that is why i posted here, that, if i have a vision and don`t know what to do with it, why don`t i share my vision, and let other with better mind and skill to craft it. end of the day, i like to see my vision being proved right, or wrong(so that we learn), by myself, or someone else.

feel free to share and comment and take it and run.

any idea???

Yea I did that to visit Santa Barbara from high up.  I relearn the area I used to live in.  There`re new developments, as usual.

How to make money from that? Not easy.  Offer area maps to those who are not computer literate or don`t have time to surf?  (there`re eBay selling services now doing the selling for same people)

Google earth pro has a feature that allows you to put in your gps info and track gps transmitters. I always thought it would be cool to create some type of small gps locator in cool devices like those gigipets or something, just something small that would be inconspicuous. This way, parents could jump on google eartha nd know exaclty where their kids are. Of course now disney has come out with a kids cell phone that does the same thing.
