Excellent story, Sonal :-)

It just shows you that it doesn`t matter if you`re in India or the US, or probably anywhere else in the world, or even any time in history. Getting up and speaking in front of people is a very hard thing to do.

I`m encouraged, hearing that your passion for helping people out was strong enough to overcome your fear of being in front of a crowd.

As a previously professional musician, I can tell you that although you`ll always feel a bit of anxiety just before you walk out on stage, it DOES get a whole lot easier! It`s not practice that makes it so....it`s repetition, and having a growing number of memories of people as you`ve written here.

A good illustration of just how much you can change someone else`s life just by being there to help them. Great story, and welcome aboard! Everyone needs a little encouraging and coaching now and then. :-)

My father has always taught me to NEVER look down on people, even if at first sight they may seems scary (ie : a  beggar in a dusty corner)

There an old Arabic saying which in essence says :
`You can find treasure in River that you cannot find in Ocean`

(Treasure should be interpreted as treasure in terms of knowledge/ life experiences)

I believe there`s a lot of wisdom in that saying, it`s a powerful metaphor.

I always treat people equally regardless of their race, religion, economical background ...

My mother is working for a non-profit organization teaching French to new immigrants, her students often tell her their stories on how life was in their home country, and she tells me how grateful we should be, as we have it so easy.

Passing on knowledge to someone else is as enjoyable as learning something new ...

Great post, Tarek. I also believe that in teaching new things to other people, you`re bound to learn something new, yourself. It`s a two-way street with rewards flowing in each direction.

Your mom has a neat job. It must be very interesting to hear all of the stories.
