Hello -

Developed (on WordPress) just a month ago and not yet launched, this blog/site is an informational resource for unemployed and people in job transition, and secondarily a marketing vehicle for quality advertisers who can help with either saving money or making money or providing training.

As this is a very broad topic, it's very easy to just end up being a portal which by necessity it has to be somewhat (I think), but I don't want it to be just a bunch of outbound links.  I feel there's an opportunity for some original thinking or targeting but I'm finding it hard to keep focus, so I think I need some content strategy before I continue adding to it.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Hi Janice,
Great question & one that everyone should be continually asking before publishing.

Wondering if you have any archetypes or an image in your head of who your audience is? Is it men, women, at which career stage?

Recent college grads could be a fantastic audience since there's such a high percentage un/underemployed. And they're very hungry for information.

Happy to discuss further,

Suzanne

Hi, Suzanne - Thanks so much for replying.  Ah, the $64,000 question!  There are a couple of groups particularly hard hit by unemployment and recent college grads are one for sure.  Thinking about it further, not only would they be hungry for info as you point out, but totally comfortable with doing that online.

Earlier this year I asked a group of bright women friends of mine to act as a board of advisers, so to speak, for this project, to keep me focused and broaden my own experience.

However, what was very interesting to them in person seemed to fall by the wayside when it went online.   These were 50+ women.  So I'm not sure whether my site is uninteresting or this particular group isn't comfortable, for instance, with reading (a lot) online or really using the internet to access information.

Mostly they said target women, but they were going off on tangents about re-entering the workforce and divorce and lifestyle issues which are valid and interesting, just not where I was going with the site.  However, this is a group with which I can relate, and college grads is not.  But I could learn...LOL....

So, if I were to focus on the recent college grad, what suggestions might you have for my site?
