eBay Live – Somebody Get Me A Helmet!

Hi gang, Well,  I’ve got a lot to digest after 3 days of eBay Live here in Chicago.  I’ll be posting thoughts/announcements all week, but here are my overall impressions: 1.  I thought eBay Live Boston last year was too quiet -  until this year.   I would be really surprised if there were more than [...]

Happy eBay Live Eve

Hi gang, Well, it’s that time of year again – eBay Live – Chicago. I remember my first eBay Live very well. It was in New Orleans several years ago, back when I was but a guppy in the seller bowl. What I remember the most about N.O. Live was that it was a freak [...]

Apple Iphone 3G Announced and eBay Bans Pre-Sales and Limits Sales

Bah, humbug,  eBay.

I especially like the Paypal only requirement.  That was a nice touch.

The Iphone 3G might be the hottest gadget all year.   For a company who wants to become the “new, in season” merchant of choice, please explain to me how these restrictions fall under that goal.

Hi gang, I am an Iphone freak – had it since it came out and you will have to pry it from my cold, dead hands.   It sleeps gently next to me and my wife on an 800 thread count satin pillow at night (kidding! … ? ). So I did the happy dance when Steve [...]

Internet Retailer Conference 2008 – Caught In The Web

Hi gang, Large eBay sellers are spending a lot of time these days developing other sales channels, and I am certainly no exception. Multichannel commerce is the way to go for an online seller. Our latest effort, http://inflatablemadnessdvd.com has been very rewarding to create, and now the challenge is to get some bidness out of [...]

My Answer To All The eBay Changes? Inflatablemadnessdvd.com!

Hi gang, Yeah,  eBay has been a tough marriage the last few years for us.   First they jack up my Store insertion fees 150%, then they institute undocumented policies concerning the feedback system and we almost get kicked off the site (neutrals are now negatives!),  then they announce fee structure changes that actually RAISE our [...]

eBay’s Latest Head-Scratching Promotion

Offering free shipping is a great way to make your items stand out from your competition. Buyers love [...]

eBay partners with Buy.com, gives large sellers the finger

Hi gang, It’s being widely reported this weekend that eBay has entered into a partnership with Buy.com to allow Buy.com to sell lots and lots of product on eBay.com.   As of this moment,  Buy.com has over 140,000 3-day listings active on the site.  In April Buy.com did roughly $700,000 in sales on eBay. None of that [...]

Unlocked Apple iPhone sells on eBay for $1500

Since a 17 year-old New Jersey kid figured out how to unlock the iPhone to work on any service carrier, not just AT&T (watch the YouTube video that has been viewed almost 600,000 times), people are popping up everywhere trying to leverage the situation for all it's worth, and what better place to do so [...]

A disappointing letter from a fan

I got a letter from a fan who read about me in this month’s issue of Entrepreneur Magazine, asking me for my advice on how to launch their new eBay business. Specifically, they wanted to know what distributor would give them the best deal on iPods. This frustrates me…. I’m not frustrated with the person [...]

Inside eBay Live! Town Hall 2007 from Boston

Today I stood in front of what I can only imagine was somewhere between 1500-2000 eBay sellers at the eBay Live! Town Hall. Town Halls are put together by eBay to allow the community to speak their mind about the good, bad and everything in between as it relates to their eBay businesses and how [...]

Live blogging from eBay Live!

I’m sitting in my hotel room after the second day of eBay Live! 2007 in Boston. I’m experiencing the conflicting feeling of intense exhaustion mixed with excitement. This is truly a great event. If for no other reason, eBay Live! is tremendous because you get to meet eBay sellers at all levels, and I’ve found [...]

If you have been reading my blog, you probably recall that my husband and I are entertaining the possibility of moving to North Carolina. We are currently in New England. I’m really excited, but I’m also really nervous about transitioning my business if this does in fact happen. Right now, I am home-based and my [...]

eBay CEO Meg Whitman on the cover of Forbes

There is an interesting cover story in this month’s edition of Forbes Magazine featuring eBay CEO Meg Whitman. Entitled “What Would Meg Do?”, the article talks about what Meg is like as a leader, the rapid growth of eBay since 2000, and how that growth is now beginning to calm down. While eBay recorded a [...]

The Power of eBay Live!

Last week I asked my readers to join the discussion and comment on what they thought of eBay Live, and if they were planning to attend this year. Here’s my two cents: eBay Live is extremely worth your while. Its a crazy three and a half days, and you may get a little exhausted or [...]
