Hi,

I would like to start a online movie rental business/on demand business.  I want to know following questions.

1.  As per some law it is ok for me to copy the dvd that I personally own.  And I can lend my dvd to someone as long I own the orginal dvd.  To explain, my questions let say I bought 5 DVDs  of a movie called "Myhome".  Now Legally if I understood I can make copies of these 5 DVDS because I own them.  But I can only lend these dvd to 5 people at a time because I purchased 5 DVDs of MyHome.

Is this true?

I am thinking about starting an online movie rental business was wondering if this model will work.

I don't know what sort of license to purchase for this.

Thanks

Rosh

Hello Rosh,

It is illegal to duplicate copyrighted material and making it available for others as a business. So you can rent 5 DVDs that you've purchased to others for "home viewing only", but you cannot make copies of the DVDs and rent those.

Big retailers like Block Buster and Redbox buy large quantities from wholesalers with large discounts.

Hope that helps.

Thanks.
