Small business travel tip: Sometimes spending more is smarter

I’m what you would call a “moderate” business traveler. I don’t travel enough to get first class seats unless something unusual happens, but I’ve traveled enough to know how to play some of the angles and I’m fairly efficient at it. I know that packing a suitcase is extremely simple as long as you have clean clothes, and I know that as a 44 year old man with bad hips & knees I prefer to sit on the aisle in planes. Sure, it’s fun to look out the window, but it’s more fun to be able to get up & stroll down the 6” wide aisle so that my joints aren’t screaming at me for the rest of the trip.

So, with all of that wisdom, here is something that I have decided … When renting a car I’d prefer to spend a little more so that I can whiz through the process of actually getting the car once I’ve landed safely and am ready to begin the ground game part of the trip.

My choice? Hertz #1 Club. It’s free (the #1 Club Gold is the one that has a fee attached to it) and the kind customer service folks always have the car I’ve requested ready to go. Renting with Hertz costs a bit more than other competitors, but until I have a less than stellar experience with Hertz, you can call me a Hertz man!

Ok – gotta run to the airport, get on a plane & pick up my rental car. I’ll let you know how it goes!
