Varied Ramblings about Extramarital Affairs, Assistant-Loss and Media Attention.

This has been an interesting week – not so much business-wise, but due to a friend’s personal problem that is affecting us. My husband’s boss (and good friend) just found out that his wife of 20-years has been cheating on him… with his best friend. This has caused him to go off the deep end. He’s afraid to leave his wife alone now because he’s worried that she’s going to meet up with her lover, so he’s not going to work. He owns the company, and that’s his prerogative, but this leaves my husband working many extra hours to keep things going. When my husband works extra hours, it affects my business because I can’t watch our boys and work downstairs at the same time. It has been especially hard this past week due to spring vacation because my older son isn’t away at preschool at all.

I also no longer have an assistant! He was a stay-at-home dad for many years, but his son is now thirteen and doesn’t need as much coddling. My assistant has to get a steady, full-time job making more than I can afford to pay. It was nice while it lasted. I’m going to have to find someone new I guess, because I can’t do this alone.

So, am I freaking out? Nah. I have learned to keep my end-goal in my mind, and not worry so much about how I’m going to get there. I can’t tell you how much better this makes me feel about my business, and life.

In the meantime, I am scrambling to get things done. I have a couple of new wholesale orders that I need to fill, and I think it’s about to get busy because my products are featured in an editorial about food mixes in a retailer’s magazine. I also put an ad in this magazine and it’s arriving in people’s mail boxes this week!

I also will be on the news this week, possibly. I was recently interviewed by a media company regarding my Orlando vacation win, here at StartupNation. The story is about people winning things from online communities and blogs. They taped me working, so hopefully it’ll air and they’ll post or mention my web site. That would be pretty cool. I’m also hoping that Startup Nation gets some attention as well.

All of this media attention used to freak me out, but it doesn’t anymore. I usually end up with less orders than I think I will. When I was featured in Family Circle magazine, I expected a couple thousand orders out of the 6 million issues that were out there. I think I got about 100. It probably would have been more if it had been a feature on my products and not so much on me being a mom-entrepreneur. I’m still getting traffic from it though, so that’s cool.

Have a great weekend, everyone!
