The StartupNation Blog Trends, tips and real-life anecdotes from industry experts

Has Your Phone Stopped Ringing?

I’ve talked to a lot of business owners recently who are seeing requests for information, incoming calls and in-store visits decline due to the economy.

As an entrepreneur, you’ve probably noticed this too. And it can be easy to fall into an emotional trap of negativity and disappointment.

If you are feeling this way, try to change your mental state. Media members and customers can feel your unhappiness…not to mention family and friends.

It may be difficult, but you’ll be able to weather the tough times much better with a positive attitude. Here are three steps to help you.

1. Read Joel Welsh’s blog.
I’m not kidding. Joel is one of the most positive people I know. No matter what happens, he always radiates happiness. Just by reading his blog, you’ll feel better.

2. Think about 10 things you are thankful for.
This may seem silly, but it really works. You probably have a lot of blessings that you may have forgotten. Also, when you think about all of the people in the world who are having major problems (war, disease, famine, earthquakes, floods, etc.), your issues may not seem so bad after all.

3. Hang out with positive people.
You may not realize it, but the negative people in your life can cause you to be more stressed and unhappy. By surrounding yourself with positive, successful people, you will have a better attitude.

4. Find a support group.
If you are having problems, talk to a friend, family member or counselor. You can also share your concerns on this forum. By getting your feelings out and hearing supportive comments from others, it will be easier to develop solutions and confront life’s stressors.

5. Read positive books.
If you are not one who likes to share your feelings, find a book that will help you feel better. Visit your local library or bookstore and look for a publication related to your favorite hobby, an inspirational message, stress relief, and more.

By hearing a different perspective and focusing on someone else, you’ll start to feel better about your current situation.

There is a lot of negativity in the word today. But that doesn’t mean you need to be unhappy. Try to focus on being positive and the good things going on in your life now.

Before you know it, the tough times will pass, requests for your products and services will start to pour in and you’ll be well on your way to reaching your goals!
