A lot of people are in jail and the jail is already overcrowded. Some people that are in their need help, they are just crying out for help. The jails are nasty and they are filthy. The people already want to put another one in and just hike the tax payers up, just something else to see your money go to waste. The economy is in a crises and the stimulus checks really didn`t help families at all. I would really like to talk to people about this and get their opinion, so give me a holler.

If we followed through on the death penalty, that`d clear out a bit of room in the jails.

Craig---- u r too much! IMO I think that the jail system is too easy and the criminals get a lot better treatment than a lot of good doing folks. I think a lot of it is ridiculous. If we made jail more of a place that was so unpleasant that people would think twice about doing the wrong thing, that would solve lot`s of things. These folks should be working on government projects. I am involved with a team  that has a huge contracted project worth 1.5 billion through the DOHS for over 5 years........... it is ridiculous what the government pays contractors and how it comes out of taxpayers pockets, when they have a huge force of capable people in the jail system. Sure all wouldn`t comply totally but a lot would, especially for labor and clerical duties. There are so many things wrong with the system but people have to write their leaders and participate in the democracy. Did you hear about the millions going to the salmon fisherman? Aren`t there systems in place for them to get aid if needed? What about other folks who are facing a crisis b/c of not only the economy but are stuck in the system? Squeaky wheel get`s it I guess.. so that is why we need more folks to start acting and doing instead of talking.I do what I can for an issue that deals with kids lost in the system when their parent gets deported for illegal immigration.. do you know a lot of these kids become part of the slave industry.. right in our country? We hear of this and that... but we all must dig deep to fully understand all of the implications. Alot of folks ignore b/c they think it does not affect them.. I have a surprise, most of it does. Look around, listen.. what can you do with the subject you brought up? You must have some interest since you brought it to the table.. what are you willing to do, what do you want to change, how can you begin to go about that? Act, do and make change.. you just have to.

Enh...everything`s backwards these days. Why do we even have a "victim`s rights" movement and organizations? How did criminals become more important? Nobody knows...! It comes back to values, and what`s important in a society.

It`s crazy! Really though it`s sad.. their are so many small movements but they are so separated from each other. Everything is backwards...earmarks, spending.. I live in VA near DC, near Quantico and these contractors are praying for war...Let`s go after Iran and fill our pockets more. Everything is out of control. These salmon fisherman received anywhere from 100k to 250 k and they referenced the Katrina victims who on average got 2400.00???????? What the heck.. who`s in charge here? Money to build useless buildings in Senators names, money to bail out sneaks in the mortgage industry? Where are the people? That is what I want to know. There has to be a movement to change the laws w/ lobbyists, how tax dollars are allocated, frivolous garbage. People are in real trouble here! The people who are busting their humps, people who make this place go round. It`s a mess. Someone has to say stop, strip away ALOT and rebuild.

On the jail system... crooks and more crooks.. the government seems to act the same way so they turn the other way with it and basicly condone. Someone needs to say enough of this junk and radically change things. You know there are "real" victims and these people go invisible to the government. If they are not affecting the bottom line of these folks pockets in government then they just don`t exist to them.

privatization of the prison system — along with security generally — is one of the fastest-growing and most profitable businesses to be in right now. It doesn`t even matter if people are doing anything wrong, or if they are deterred, lots and lots of people have to be thrown in jail for companies like Wackenhut and Corrections Corporation of America to make money, and they assuredly have the lobbying power to see that it happens. The number of laws on the books has become so insane that anyone at any time is probably breaking some law that they could go to jail for and not even know it.

I think it`s only a matter of time before debtors` prisons make a big comeback. What a windfall that would be for investors in private prison management companies, with credit card companies jacking up interest rates to 30% just after 2005`s bankruptcy law changes. It`s enough to make the conspiracy-theory tinfoil hat people look like they know what they`re talking about.

Paula, I know all to well about The GEO Group and how they had overbuilt and had immigration contracts with the feds to fill their beds... In San Diego, CCA is in the permitting process to build a nearly 3,000-bed facility that the company hopes will be used by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE. It would hold more than four times the detainees held there now.The Marshall service and the bureau if prisons give them over 46% of their bottom line. These fed contracts pay the highest and you know what that means.. more pushing on the hill = higher stocks. The private prisons are dependent on these immigration contracts. You are right, the law is not on our side in a lot of cases. We see these greedy white collar guys getting away with murder and folks with minimal defenses going in for years...someone`s got to pay for there expensive retreats, planes, boats, etc. Why not us????????? Things have got to change. EVERYTHING affects all of us in some way. See how the prison system if even tied to the cause I work with? When are we going to hold these politicians and lobbyists accountable? When are we going to make into law some real changes. We all need to step up and be on guard. And mostly act on it.

Craig,

Thanks for the recommendation. Reading the reviews, it promises to be an interesting read.  I love the new Amazon video reviews. I will have to pick it for my next month`s read list.
