Sure it could work but there are a lot of logistics that go into figuring out how to make it work well.  A brick and mortar store like that would have to be in a strategic location to be convenient to your market.  Perhaps there`s a great spot in your town but it seems like it would be difficult.

How about instead of a store, you could start out with retail displays with a few products that you put in already established consumer locations?  For example, at the video store you were at last night.  How convenient would that be instead of having to stop at another store?

Romance is all about ideals. A "romantic" night is one that attempts to create in the real world whatever is the ideal, imagined perfect night for someone. So in order to sell romance, you have to understand ideals and idealism. It`s why there are so many versions of what`s romantic.

Best bet would be to be very clear on your specific target market. Find the niche, then focus on that niche. For example, if you want to sell romantic gifts to executive corporate managers, that`s one niche--men or women, both being different. But if you want to sell romance to back-packing nature lovers, that will be an entirely different line of products.
