Great idea Joel!
Welcome poppop!
Hi Joel
Just read the book, love it for inspiration...need help with the 1st steps...I am very good @ sales, however, getting my product initially developed is not easy as I require a plastic mold...any suggestions on where I should direct my forum search questions?
Typical story with hesitations on going for it because of other rlife esponsibility`s, however, the product is awesome and could be ...????
Thanks,
Jim
Do you need the part for doing your prototype? If so, for just prototyping purposes is there anything you can use to build a crude one at the crafts and hardware stores? Another option for plastics to use an over the counter plastic forming kit such as Quik-Cast or something like that. If that`s still not an option, I went to my local community college that offered modeling software classes and got my Solidworks files done for free. Check out the your local educational resources. If they won`t do a project for free, the administrators and professors might be able to direct you to a reasonable area rapid prototyping person. How far along are you in this crazy wonderful process?
Thank you all for the input. I will check out the site`s recommended.
The entire part is plastic, however, will have a open and closing compartment that would be a separate moving part that keeps screwing me up w/the quick cast material.
Also, I am a appearance junkie and want clean lines (even on a prototype) I love the suggestion about local schools and seeing what I can get accomplished here.
I guess I am like many, I already know what it should look like, how the market works, how to sell it, even package it...but developing/manufacturing is my hangup. Do many on this site use overseas manufacturing for parts/products because of cost? This is a mass market product, so my costs are essential to be competitive.
Thanks again.
Jim
Hey there,
Thought I`d take Joel`s advice and introduce myself to the community. I just joined startupnation a couple of weeks ago - I own a tutoring center in NYC called Academics Plus and my partner and I recently self-published two SAT books (How to Ace the SAT Without Losing Your Cool and the SAT Success System Personal Workbook). We`re working on our third book, which we`re hoping to go the traditional publishing route for. Right now, we are trying to build name recognition and get the word out about the book and about our tutoring center. We created a myspace page (well, 2 actually), a blog on our website, have been writing articles, releasing press releases, contributing to forums, inviting individuals to review our book, etc., etc. If anyone has any other advice about how to create buzz about the business or the book, I`m totally open. If not, and you feel like saying hey, please do.
