I have spent the last 19 years working in academic settings - first on the university side, then the high school side. I have been advising and counseling high school kids on their college options and how to get where they want to be. Now it is time for me to do the same thing - get to the place where I want to be. Be my own boss. Set my own rules. Help families make it through the college process with some sanity left intact. Engage in more volunteer work and help 1st generation and low income families also find good college matches for their kids. I also want to explore some other business options - yoga teacher, franchise owner. In the last couple of months I have turned down some wonderful invitations to interview at some wonderful private schools - I feel crazy turning down fınancial security as it looks me straight in the face. But I also feel strangely liberated. I know I am going to make it without them. I have been thinking and planning in my head for this day for a long time. I do not know for sure where my monthly paychecks will be coming from, at least for the near future, but I know I am going to make this venture work for me.
