More about me:
I am recently retired from a 30-year Federal career. Currently, I am working as an independent consultant, doing engineering planning and project management for the Navy.

My consulting work is on a flexible schedule, which allows me to pursue my business plans for establishing an event facility and production agency. My goal is to purchase a property or facility by October 2008.

My business experiences are varied and somewhat intermittent. I market, manage, and maintain a duplex rental property - a unit that I rent out as corporate housing. I have done some photography work and sign painting projects on the side. I occasionally do resume writing services and job search counseling.

Other experiences were not for pay, but valuable nonetheless. I served 6 years on a board of trustees for a Montessori school. I served on the advisory board of a public school Career Center, for their Engineering Drafting program. I have hosted several international exchange students, and served as a conversation partner with Ohio State University for Asian professionals enrolled in a program to improve their English skills. I have written for, or served as editor, photographer, and graphic artist for various newsletters and local publications. I have served significant roles in planning various events, fundraisers, and similar activities, and I frequently am asked or volunteer to serve as “unofficial photographer” for various organizations or for special events. I also write contractual agreements (for my own side business ventures or sometimes for others) and I have prepared various marketing materials for my own use and to assist others in starting their ventures.

I am constantly reading, researching, listening, observing, and networking to stay current with local and world events, cultural and business trends, and changing technology. Learning, teaching, planning, designing, and event productions are my passions.

Some of my potential business-related skills:

project management (particularly in the development of engineering construction projects by contract)

planning and organizing, in general - including business plans, organizational structure, and operational procedures (I'm quite adept at seeing the big picture and thinking through the details)

researching & networking (either for information or resources)

teaching/training/instruction (I'm fairly good at explaining complex ideas or procedures at an understandable level, also communicating with non-native or marginal English speakers)

marketing/branding (especially regarding development of informational literature and finding opportunities for exposure and educational aspects of a product or service)

word tasks/writing/editing/layout (including technical specifications, legal agreements, and easily understandable contracts)

preparing orientations/compiling "quick reference" files of data (information that helps customers or new employees find what's available, where things are, and how things operate)

developing systems/processes/forms/checklists (those critical things in a business that need to be thought through and defined initially, so that recurring tasks can occur more smoothly, with some semblance of order)

event/activity/production planning (I plan events that encourage attendees of all ages and persuasions to actively participate; also, I photograph and create personal archives of significant and memorable occasions)

photography/audio-visual production (my photography skills are more honed than my current audio-visual abilities, mostly because of the ever changing technology which must be used regularly if one hopes to stay up-to-date)

design (industrial, architectural, graphics); also drawing/sketching/drafting (I'm fairly adept at AutoCAD and preparing engineering drawings of all types)

sign painting (I used to be a journeyman sign painter)

woodworking & refinishing (a part-time hobby that may not even have any relevance to a business, but included here, nonetheless)

Myers-Briggs Type Indicator: ENTJ (heavy on the J)
H.O.T.S. Survey: Primarily Hare with traits of Owl and Squirrel
Holland Occupational Code Preferences: Investigative (Things & Ideas), Artistic (Ideas & People), Social (People)
