The past couple of days I`ve been emailing a brief description of my business idea out to a bunch of people I know from my activist days, mostly movers-and-shakers or who are otehrwise involved in the target market I intend to reach. All the feedback I`ve gotten has been enthusiastically positive... I had 3 people volunteer to help, got a few references to other people for various things, and even picked up a small design job. One of the respondents <sp?> wants me to publish in Canada right off the bat. I also have someone who may be the first person of a future advisory board commit to an ongoing support dialog with me about my progress.
Now, I realize this isn`t real market research, but it is very encouraging nonetheless. These folks are opinion leaders in my target market — they are the ones who will link up to me from their own websites and blogs, spread the word among their own organizations` email lists, and keep me in an abundance of news which will make editorial a breeze.
Hey now, another volunteer just showed up in my in-box. With lots of exclamation points!!!! And evidently a long history of corporate business consulting experience. Yay!
This is very exciting. Yesterday I slid into a funk and started thinking, "What the hell am I doing I can`t pull this off, this is way too big for a simpleton like me." Then I find all I have to do is tell someone what I`m doing and the heavens open with encouragement galore. Maybe if I start asking for money they will open with dollars galore, too.
In any event just wanted to share. I feel like dancing a jig, woo hoo!
