Episode from StartupNation Radio Channel: Business Financing

Episode Spotlight

Join StartupNation’s chief startupologists and co-hosts, the Sloan brothers as they track down past callers, featured guests and elevator pitchers to see what kind of progress they’ve made since their last appearance on StartupNation Radio.

First, we catch up with the ever flirtatious entrepreneur, Eva, who’s nicknamed herself the “Tax Mamma” and offers accounting advice online. It’s clear that since her appearance in 2006 on StartupNation’s American Idol-style Elevator Pitch Contest, things haven’t worked out the way she hoped. She’s revamping her entire business model to generate subscription revenue instead of relying on advertising revenue at her accounting advice website.

Then we hear from Todd, inventor of the inflatable personal airbag for motorcycle riders. We learn that he’s landed a transformative contract from the US military, and that’s catalyzing interest from other sectors and buyers as well. He’s clearly on his way with his personal inflatable airbag.

Next we touch base with home-schooling entrepreneur, Phil Camillo, who actually won StartupNation’s 2006 Elevator Pitch Contest. He’s got his business plan buttoned up and is starting investor presentations to raise money from an angel investor club in Winter Park, FL.

The next caller is a familiar voice – we enjoyed talking to her first time around and even more this time. She’s the inventor of “Grill Charms,” inserts that you place in your grilling food to note who’s burger is whose. She’s well done and rare, all at the same time. But she needs to get her product out there… our concern is that she’s moving too slowly.

We make time for yet a few more callers, including a maker of award-winning granola, that’s winning all the taste tests at the biggest trade shows, and another hop across the pond to learn about the progress of an entrepreneur who’s taken dancing back to London’s main stage and has met with resounding success.

For the most part, we’re impressed with the real progress these tenacious entrepreneurs have made. Listen in - you will be, too.
