send over a CV. better yet start off with smaller projects you can get from elance.com, freelance.com etc. i am sure there are niche sites just for VAs.  build a reputation and take it from there.  some VAs only need one employer to keep them busy full time.

Meny, How does one go about applying for a "real, reputable" position as a virtual assistant?

I agree, though I am admittedly biased...I have had excellent success with http://www.davincivirtual.com and can`t imagine my business life without a VA. My small biz would be so completely disorganized...and i would be spending so much time on things that don`t need my attention. It frees me up to do the work I am passionate about...
