Learn about the top 5 technology products that can be game-changing for your small business

Steve Krasnick, a guru from Huntington Technologies, stops by StartupNation to talk about the key tech products that every small business owner needs.

  1. Software. Anti virus, anti spy and firewall programs are important for protecting your system. Also, there is software that aids in efficiency by preventing viruses and pop-ups.
  2. A Server. First, ask yourself these questions: How many users do you have? How much data are you managing? Are you a tech-driven business? Answering these questions can help you determine if a server is right for you. If it is, you can access your business from anywhere.
  3. A handheld device. There are so many options out there in the area of phones and handhelds. They help you to stay tuned in with your employees and your clients and give you multi-function access 24/7.
  4. On-line data vault. This is a fancy name for an online backup and recovery system for the data your business is storing. It eliminates the headache of losing valuable information, which could be detrimental to your business.
  5. CRM. Customer Relationship Management software, or contact management software, is a system in which you can enter all your contacts and manage all correspondence. It allows you to track the activities of your employees and optimize customer relationships.

A combination of these 5 products can be obtained for under 10K and, most importantly, can minimize loss.

My interpretation of the post was from the conceptual level, then I broke it out into concrete "things." I concur with Kregg that "have" is the swing-word, along with what it means. Realistically, it isn`t conceptually absolute that we "must have" a computer. Countless businesses these days run just fine without a computer. It makes life easier, IF you know how to work the device. If you don`t, then it`s an obstacle. But my thinking was that we could remove the word "software" ...

Craig and Kregg both make great points about what the "must-haves" are for any small business.  Of course "must-haves" are dependent upon what type of business you are in (hi tech, low-tech, services, manufacturing, etc.), how large the business is (staff size, customers base, sales volume, etc.) and of course how much money the business has to spend on technology.   All these factors play into what technology solutions actually make sense for a given business. ...

I think what one `must have` depends in large part on the type of business. It also depends on what you mean by `have`. I read an article not too long ago about the booming Software-as-a-Service market titled "Ownership is Nine-Tenths of Yesterday". In my opinion, everything that doesn`t need to be owned should be outsourced or rented, which covers just about everything these days. The more you own, the less capital you have to grow your business. So I say don`t `have` it, use it. I did not see ...
