Attracting a target audience to a website - Q & A

Radio Show

Paul calls in to get some tips from Titus on how to attract more target customers to his website.

Rich Sloan:  Paul, welcome to the show.

Paul:  Hey, how you guys doing?

Rich Sloan:  Doing great.  You have a question for Titus?

Paul:  Yeah.  Good evening guys.

Titus Blair:  How you doing?

Paul: Great show.  I really appreciate it.

Rich Sloan:  Right on.

Paul: I listen to you on WABC Radio in New York.

Rich Sloan:  Oh, the biggest -- the biggest and the best.

Paul: That's right.  My question is regarding enhancing website traffic.  I wanted to preface my question by --

Rich Sloan:  Do you have a website?

Paul:  Yes, we do.  The website is www.sillysupermarket.com.

Rich Sloan:  Okay.  And go ahead and ask your question.  We've got a couple minutes.

Paul:  Okay.  Essentially we market and produce product parody stickers.  I'm not sure if you guys are familiar with wacky packages from the '70's.

Rich Sloan:  No.  But go ahead and ask the question.

Paul:  Okay.  Okay.  My question is our demographic is pretty much kids ages 6 to 12, adults 35 to 45.  And thus far we've arranged reciprocal links with fan sites and we've also started up an art contest where people can send or create their own product parody.

Rich Sloan:  Good move, Paul.  I know Titus is smiling when he hears you say contest.

Paul:  Right.  Exactly and we've noticed that that's probably improved, you know, the number of unique visitors.  We're up around 1,000 per month, with about 40,000 hits.

Rich Sloan:  Okay.  Do you have a quick question you can ask?

Paul:  Yeah, I mean, I guess my question is, is there anything additional I can be doing to connect with my customers and potential customers?

Rich Sloan:  All right, Titus, take it away.

Titus Blair:  I think the best thing to do is probably to -- and I always suggest this to everyone, is try and learn more about your customer and that would be to put up some sort of questionnaire or an ability to get feedback from them to see what you're providing them, see what they expect from you and just find a little bit more about what they want.

Because what happens is, a lot of times as -- and I, myself, with the website, we try and put out there what we think people will want the most and what we can sell the most of and, you know, I've fallen for this too, and not ask exactly what people want.  So, I think you know, one good think and a strong point, which is free, especially if you have a niche, is to put up a questionnaire, say, you know, we really want to help improve our business as far as getting more to you, what you want.
