Jeff and Rich Sloan Named Small Business Journalists of the Year

Detroit , Michigan – Jeff and Rich Sloan, co-founders of StartupNation ® , LLC in Birmingham , have been named the 2005 Michigan and Midwest Region Small Business Journalists of the Year by the Small Business Administration (SBA). As the creators of StartupNation ® , and the co-hosts of the weekly nationally syndicated radio program, StartupNation ® Radio, the Sloans provide business advice via a multimedia platform to entrepreneurs and small business owners seeking inspiration and information.

Jeff and Rich Sloan truly exemplify what it means to be small business champions. As inventors and entrepreneurs themselves, they created StartupNation ® in 2001 to increase public awareness about the importance of small business as well as to inspire people to take control of their own lives by owning a business. Through StartupNation ® and their nationally syndicated radio program, Webinars, e-newsletter, articles, and more, they have reached hundreds of thousands of people to increase the awareness of small business issues and the importance of entrepreneurship.

Jeff Sloan is a member of the Governor’s Council of Economic Advisors and the Detroit Regional Chamber; and the Director of the Michigan Venture Capital Association. Rich is member of the Governor’s Technology Tri-Corridor Steering Committee and the Detroit Regional Economic Partnership Technology Committee. He is also the past chairman of the John F. Kennedy Small Business Caucus.

The Sloans will receive their award during the first annual Michigan Celebrates Small Business awards dinner at the Kellogg Hotel & Conference Center in East Lansing on April 28, 2005.
