I`m looking for advice from anyone who has published his/her own book.  Anyone like that out there?

Have you tried looking through these initial topics, doing a search in topic name for "self publish?"

We`ve had a number of other topics in the past about marketing your own book, publishing your own book, and so on. You also could look at "e-book" discussion topics.

The SuN forum search isn`t all that great, but we`ve had lots of discussions about the pros and cons of DYI publishing. Just try different combinations of words, and look in messages and topics as well.

Cartess, thanks for the recommendation! I`m pondering self-publishing next time around, and really had no particular idea in mind for where to start. This gets the ball rolling. :-) Excellent! (bookmarked the site)

Mike,
I was looking again at your screen ID. What`s this book about? It sounds to me as if it might be a recipe book? Cooking fish? Could you maybe expand a bit?

No problem...that guy is a Genius! I thought it was an over-hyped pitch, but when i ordered the thing, it almost had me wanting to create my own publishing company (which is still in my book of ideas for when I get some time maybe 5 years from now ).

He wrote a book some years ago which I think prompted many people to setup their own corporations, the book was titled "How to Form Your Own Corporation Without a Lawyer for Under $75" -- simply genius!

You won`t be disappointed --- heck, I`ll give you your money back if you thought it was a waste

Here`s his site, which elaborates on that book cover:

Looks interesting!

Hoo Hah!! Well now THIS looks like an interesting book, and it dovetails beautifully with another guy`s site:
No Bones About It -- How to fillet a fish perfectly.

I heard this guy on the radio one afternoon. Here in Chicago, we have a hot talk-radio station (WLS-AM), and at the time, Roe & Gary were right at the top of their demogrpahic. I can`t remember the fillet-guy`s name (Dan, I think?), but he called them up, asked if they liked fish, and sent them a huge salmon fillet, smoked, chilled, and ready to eat.

Of course they had to have him on the show, and he was filled with passion, humor, excitement, and couldn`t talk enough about this new system he`d learned in Hawaii of how to "unzip a fish."

His idea was to sell video instruction tapes, and I went home, looked up his site, and immediately bought the tape for lake fish. I`d learned how to fillet, but never from anyone who was a professional. The result fundamentally changed my concept of fishing, in particular about eating the fish I was catching.

Now I tell everyone I meet at the lake about the site, and I`m shocked at how many people who fish simply don`t know what to do with the fish they catch.

I see a possible affiliate link here, as well as a way to build on that mystical Holy Grail of all fishermen: Which of these lures is going to catch fish when the fish ain`t biting! :-D

Next immediate solution: Publish the book as an e-book, but spend some money for a really fine CDROM label and jewel case, with a nicely designed cover, art, and liner notes. Or, like Kim Komando, put the disk inside a standard office presentation folder, and have all that artwork and content on printed on the glossy folder.

Sell the e-book for $19.95 (plus nominal S&H), and list it all over the Web site.

One of the best I`ve come across (and he does print for actual books, cd, dvd and jewel cases too)
