Episode Spotlight
The program kicks off with an elevator pitch – a caller named Todd pitches his business concept for a new online business that connects home owners with local contractors who provide quotes on work that needs to be done. Show hosts, the Sloan brothers critique the pitch and don’t exactly agree – Jeff gives the entrepreneur a “10,” but Rich is left feeling like the pitch was too scripted.
The Sloan brothers then take calls, providing advice. You’ll learn their perspective on the big advantage of marketing initiatives online versus through traditional media.
Also, they spend a few minutes visiting with Gaukel Grown and Ground, a company based in eastern Wyoming that sells its own products based on the wheat they harvest from their own land. The husband and wife team made a key move when they took their business online, leapfrogging from local sales to worldwide distribution.
They also explain how the website reduced the impact of seasonality that used to plague them. Like questions from callers earlier in the show, the Gaukels recognize the marketing potential of search engine optimization and benefit significantly from the traffic that it generates.
