An increasing number of Web sites, business documents, and other
written content have problems with grammar, language, logical
organization, reading flow, and even basic meaning. Long ago, an Editor
was the person who not only put written content through the mill for
language, they also worked with the author to enhance the meaning and
interest of the content.
Editors are more directly involved than copy-editors, proof-readers,
line-editors, and "friends." Given the higher cost, many companies have
tried to do away with the entire field, hoping to fold in together
proof-readers and copy-editors. It doesn't seem to be working.
I'm an editor, meaning that I'll go through your written material and
hold you to professional standards of language and meaning. I act as
the reader's advocate, asking the questions you haven't answered,
making the comments you won't hear from your readers, and generally
being a critical reader before you go "live."
If you need original content, major revisions, or even a rewrite of
your content, that too, is part of what an editor can provide for you.
I charge the typical rates for the industry, with a ball-park figure
somewhere between 0.10 - 0.15 (cents USD) per word. After seeing a
project, we can set a flat fee, per-page rate, or use a per-word rate,
it's negotiable.
