I am the proud owner of AboutOne.com and the proud mom of 4 boys, all under the age of 6! Being a mom inspired me to develop AboutOne.com, working nights and weekends while I was working for SAP, a leading business management software company. I wanted to use my experience with cloud technology to develop software that would help me do a better job of preserving my family’s memories and allow me to spend less time on recordkeeping and more time with my family. This summer, I left my job at SAP to devote myself fully to AboutOne.com so that it would meet two very specific goals: making life easier for moms and their families, and making life better for the greater community through AboutOne.com’s emphasis on philanthropy.
This short video gives a fun overview of AboutOne.com: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U_GItRcofKM
AboutOne.com is an online family management journal that helps busy moms store and manage what matters most: family memories and household information. It’s fast, fun, and easy to use. Taking a few seconds to record events in AboutOne.com - from any location, any web-enabled device, and at any time, right when they happen or later when you have a free moment - ensures that information is available to access in the future.
Very few baby books go beyond a child’s 5th year, so capturing these memories for an older child or adult means you need to create custom scrapbooks. Like many moms, I don’t have the time to do that. With AboutOne.com, you can easily capture and preserve your family’s memorable moments in seconds, right when they happen. With no additional record-keeping, you can then pass the online scrapbook down to your children, include the memories in newsletters to share online with family and friends, and use them to automatically create hardcover photo memory books.
More powerful than a simple address book, AboutOne.com gives you one, easily accessible place to keep track of all the important details you want to remember about your family, your friends, special places you like to visit and the people and companies you do business with – details that often get lost in the shuffle. With tagging and filtering, you can identify contacts for automatic inclusion in holiday card, newsletter, and other mailing lists. You can store notes about your relationships, and get automatic alerts about birthdays and anniversaries, including reminders about the person’s age or how many years they’ve been married, plus a gift registry so you can keep track of gifts you’ve received, given and plan to give. Plus, if your computer crashes or you lose your phone, you can quickly and easily re-load your contact details from AboutOne.com, the one secure, central location you can count on.
AboutOne.com prompts you to record the specific details you need on hand to take care of your family. In just a few clicks, it stores this important information with bank-level security, so that it's there when you need it, any time, from any location, including information about your possessions, education and health records. Then, with no additional work, all posts are combined to save time on everyday activities like automatically creating and mailing holiday cards, or completing school forms, college applications, caregiver instructions, and tax returns. It also provides you with information crucial for making informed decisions and responding to an emergency.
When I first had the idea to start AboutOne.com, I felt very strongly about incorporating social responsibility in the company's mission. As a result, AboutOne.com’s mission includes a philanthropic component. Our focus is on children, women, and heroes (military, police, firefighters). We are dedicated to charitable giving, both through our time and through a percentage of our profits.
I would be honored to win the Leading Moms in Business Competition because being a mom is the most inspirational part of my life and my work.
