I started a company out of my home in 2011 called Camera Creatures. Camera Creatures are plush, stuffed animals with a built in squeaker that fit on interchangeable camera lenses. They are a wonderful hands-free way for photographers to get little ones to look at the camera. I run the business from my home in the midst of life as a busy mom.
At the time I started my business my oldest child was three, my middle child just turned two and my youngest was almost one. My children are exactly 15 months apart. Their age gap alone seemed crazy to me, however, it made me realize I could do anything....I mean anything!
I became very serious about photography with the birth of my first child and started to photograph friends children as well. I knew too well the trials of getting little one's attention for pictures. I had seen a variety of hand-made lens puppets, and decided to join the ranks and make my own camera lens puppets based on my children's interests. My shop took off quickly and I was contacted by some large on-line photography retailers who wanted to sell them. I knew I couldn't create the volume they wanted to purchase and remain sane, so I dove head first into commercial production of my product. Thus was born the first manufactured Camera Creature.
I would love win the Leading Moms in Business Competition because I am the woman who fearlessly dove into a business I believed in while being a mom of three very little children. I know the trials of starting a business and am so wanting to expand the reach of my product while learning as much as I can along the way. I'd be honored to be the winner of such an amazing contest!
