The New England Trading Company, Ltd. is a truly inspirational story of entrepreneurship and family focus, and how a woman can make it happen in today's world. "The Trading Company" was founded in Waterford, Vermont in 2009 as the premier online gallery of New England artisans. The extremely unique handmade products offered soon grew the company very quickly.
Lobster rope used by Maine lobstermen that has been recycled and woven into colorful, weatherproof doormats and baskets; stylish Sea Bags totes made from used sailboat sails repurposed into cool bags, wine totes, wrislets, placemats and more; reclaimed naturally-fallen trees that have been handcrafted into beautiful wood bowls and utensils; and many more unique, handmade and green Made in USA products.
Although founded by Vermont native Karen Mayo and her husband New Hampshire native Jeff Marsh, personal circumstances required the family to relocate to Ohio within months of starting the business. With 5 month old daughter Ava, and two big yellow labs in tow, the couple headed to their new home.
Karen owns and operates The New England Trading Company, Ltd. and keeps the couple's dream alive. With twin 18-year old step daughters and a 13-year old step son as well, Karen has managed the move, the family, a hectic travel schedule to keep the family close, and leading two growing businesses with enthusiasm, tenacity, and a near-impossible balancing act - all the while maintaining composure, and continued success.
