My name is Savanna Fancher, and I am the owner and designer of my brand of children's apparel “Soleil Creations”. My love for boutique clothing and accessories began in the fall of 2009 when I began to explore the world of fancy hair pieces and tutu’s in preparation for my then infant daughter, Hana Soleil’s first birthday. My business beginnings were small and unexpected, as my first creations were only chronicled in my family blog. It consisted of several hair flowers, bows, and tutu birthday dresses. After working very hard, I began to produce some lovely items that were requested by my family and friends for their children's special events, and with their feedback and encouragement I decided to take the leap into entrepreneurship and Soleil Creations was born.
In the spring of 2011, my business celebrated it’s first anniversary! It has been an amazing time, because building a business is a real learning experience. I have dedicated countless hours into each and every aspect of Soleil Creations, from product conceptualization, website design, marketing, customer service, and of course the design and production of my custom dresses and accessories. One of the many things that set my company apart from many other start-up companies is this very dedication. Soleil Creations is not a hobby conducted in my spare time, It is a full fledged business, connected to the customers everyday of every week.
Fresh fun ideas and designs are always on the forefront of my store’s outlook, and although Soleil Creations mainly carries items for little princesses, being a mom to my little girl AND two son’s would not allow me to forget our little princes in the boutique clothing sphere. This is why in the summer of 2011, I launched my collection of fun outfits for our little guys aptly named “Just 4 Boys”. This addition to Soleil Creations was met very warmly and I plan to add more items to the line up this summer as well.
This spring, Soleil Creations will mark it’s highly anticipated second year, and I have some great new things on the horizon for it. I look forward to including more parent requested items to the growing line up of dresses, apparel and accessories. I also expect to expand on 2011’s community outreach efforts, which provided costume assistance to a small child care center in my home town of The Bronx, NY! I enjoyed designing the outfits and seeing the smiling faces of the students as they preformed. I feel it is very important to support the arts in every way possible, and this is my companies way of returning all the love and support we received and continue to receive from our home town! 2011 also heralded the quiet expansion of our flower girl dresses, and there are bigger plans for this growing line as well, as it has become our second best selling collection in the boutique.
My hope for this year’s participation in the StartupNation Leading Moms in Business Competition is to be able to reach and serve more parents who are looking for an alternative to big box, foreign-made, one style fits all special occasion wear!
