North Penn Under Ten

Contestant's Case to Win

This is based on the number of votes received.
North Penn is the name of our wonderful suburb located just outside of Philadelphia, PA. Our school district is called North Penn, we have a North Penn YMCA, a North Penn Boys & Girls Club, etc. If there is one thing the Philadelphia area has to offer, besides Brotherly Love, of course, it is activities for children! Frustrated by having to skim through page after page of the many Philly metro-area publications for events that were really, truly local (and faced with a couple of free days while her in-laws watched the kids), Aimee Heavener decided she wanted to make things easier for her fellow North Penn moms and NorthPennUnderTen.com was born. But, since its inception in July of 2010, North Penn Under Ten has become much more than an on-line calendar of local events. An entire section of the site entitled "Doing Good" is updated regularly with various ways that families, individuals, scout troops and youth groups can give back to others in the North Penn community. Local moms can advertise for free in the MarketPlace section of the site. Everything from swingsets to beer bread to yard sales to face painters and private tutors can be found on the site and each of these hard-working moms gets their publicity...for free! Small businesses are also given price-breaks on advertising. Aimee's admiration for non-profits is apparent. Priority on the calendar of events and blog coverage is always given to non-profits and youth organizations. Restless by nature, if she's not chasing around her own three children under age ten (2, 4, and 6 to be exact) or adding dozens more events to the calendar and registration reminders to the blog, she might be teaching a children's class at the YMCA, preparing a lesson plan for her kindergarten Sunday School class, or networking with other community-minded parents.
