Contestant's Case to Win
This is based on the number of votes received. It takes a child to have an idea so simple and wonderful that it changes lives.
My youngest son, David, always loved playing with his two little sisters and noticed how much they loved their stuffed animals and their blankets.
"What if we made a blankie that was sort of both? A blankie shaped into an animal's face?" David asked. "And what if it had a HUGE smile on it? Because if the blankie is happy, then I know it would make babies happy and that would make their Mommies and Daddies happy, too!"
David's eyes lit up as he talked and I could hear the passion in his voice. That’s how I knew he was completely serious. I instantly "got" how powerful this could be for both children AND their parents.
Together we had another idea: What if we could give one blankie away to a child in need for every blankie we sold? I had spent enough time in the NICU with our oldest son, Matthew to know how much I would have loved ANY blankie with a big smile on it.
Matthew was born with a severe birth defect and was given a 20% chance to survive. Even if he made it through corrective surgery, we weren't sure how long he would live. Thankfully, he made it home and is happy and healthy today, though the experience has had a lasting impact on our whole family – including David.
When one of my children has an idea that benefits others, I REALLY listen. That’s how Happy Blankie began, with one simple thought and a whole lot of hope. I believe that we need to show our children that their ideas can turn into something real. We formed Happy Blankie to help David bring to life his vision of spreading happiness and joy around the world. Our core philosophy is One to Love, One to Give, because for every blankie purchased, we give one away to a child in a hospital or orphanage.
We have been overwhelmed with positive feedback about how our blankies are touching lives and giving comfort to sick and orphaned children. Our goal is to deliver a Happy Blankie to every sick child in the United States and around the world.
With your vote of support we will be one step closer to making our dream a reality! Thank you!!
