CRESCENT MOON DESIGNS (CMD) transforms manuscripts into books and publications of all types by design. CMD does not work by the old saying, "DON'T JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER." CMD says, “DO JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER,” as the covers I design speak for what is inside; and, the contents are just as beautifully designed and laid-out as the cover is.

CRESCENT MOON DESIGNS is the innovation and compilation of 25 years of working in the field of editing and design, and was created in 2008 by Susan Houck, sole owner, Editor and Designer. I have raised two children, putting them through college, and both are now living on their own working full time. I had always dreamed of running my own editing & design business, but had to wait until they were both out of college before I could retire and pursue my dream.

Since the inception of CMD, I have completed three published books and over ten publications. I am currently under contract with the University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma Geological Survey, to produce guidebooks on geographical formations in Oklahoma and surrounding states, as well as many other publications.

If CRESCENT MOON DESIGNS were in the dictionary or a thesaurus, it would read “diversity, inspirational, thorough, detail-oriented and dedicated.”

DIVERSITY…I work with a variety of subject matters, both non-fictional and fictional.
INSPIRATIONAL…my inspiration comes from within and my love for designing, as well as from my clients and the subject matter.
THOROUGH…I leave “no stone un-turn” when it comes to editing; not only do I edit, but I proofread as well as copy-editing if there is improper usage of words and sentence structure.
DETAIL-ORIENTED…I pre-design each template according to the subject matter or per instructions from the author and/or publisher.
DEDICATED…I am dedicated to both my clients and the work I produce. I work one-on-one through the process of preparing a manuscript for publishing, from the conception, during the designing and editing process, until the final is ready for printing and publishing. During the process, I send my client sample template designs of the manuscript, and rough drafts as I complete sections of the project.

In summary, what makes CRESCENT MOON DESIGNS unique is from the relationships I have developed with my clients. While listening to them, I hear the passion and love they have for what they have written. Their passion becomes my passion, as if we are one—creating a piece of art that we equally proud of—the writer and the designer working together.
