A Sitter Mixer is a new, convenient way for moms & babysitters to meet. Think speed-dating meets job fair in a fun, casual environment! The founders of Sitter Mixer, both former teachers, are busy moms to small children (they have 4 kids under 5 between them). In the fall of 2010 they found themselves in a common predicament: having difficulty finding qualified, experienced, local babysitters for their kids. In response, they came up with an ingenious solution: host events that combine a mom's-night-out with shopping and delicious food with "speed dating" mini interviews with terrific babysitters! Sitter Mixer then began partnering with moms groups to host events all over New England to match terrific babysitters with families who need them.

Their business has taken off in recent months, with events planned all over New England and inquiries arriving daily from moms' groups who want to sponsor an event in their area. They have acquired a legion of fans, loyal sponsors, and a fantastic community of vendors. The vendors at a Sitter Mixer are all moms themselves, and their businesses include everything from jewelry to hair bows to personal chef services. By showcasing these fellow "mompreneurs," Sitter Mixer is helping other mom-owned-businesses increase their profile and build their client base through the Sitter Mixer events and associated publicity, all while offering Sitter Mixer attendees an opportunity to "shop local" and support other moms in business. It's a win-win!

This innovative, exciting new way to find a sitter is the best thing to happen to babysitters and moms since sites like SitterCity began offering moms and sitters a way to connect online. A Sitter Mixer event improves on this idea by custom matching moms and sitters based on a variety of criteria, and providing them a safe, low-pressure way to meet each other. This saves moms hours of legwork calling sitters, arranging interviews, and meeting with sitters that aren't a good fit for their needs. For sitters, a Sitter Mixer is a dream come true -- lots of families actively looking for child care help, all in one place. The Sitter Mixer concept has begun attracting national press attention, including being featured in the Boston Herald, AOLNews, NPR's "All Things Considered" (coming May 2011), and a host of local news outlets.
