Driven by the desire to help others become more proficient and confident in their communication skills, Barbara opened Help Me Speak, LLC in December 1998. She started by traveling to her clients' homes, then opened an office in her home, and now has moved her practice to a state-of-the art clinic in Marriottsville, MD. Now, her handicapped accessible clinic boasts 4 treatment rooms with observation mirrors, a sensory-motor room, a kitchenette, client & staff bathrooms, a waiting room, and a secure entry system. Help Me Speak,LLC is Howard County’s premier speech and language private practice. Their mission statement is to help people of all ages to speak, eat, sign, learn and play, and to make a difference in the quality and quantity in the life of each one. “We are uniquely qualified to develop and utilize an optimal treatment plan for each client to allow for maximum progress,” says Barbara.

Barbara and her associates provide speech and language, oral motor, and eating therapy for a wide variety of diagnoses including but not limited to: apraxia, autism, Down Syndrome, auditory processing, and articulation. They use techniques such as: level 2 PROMPT, Talk Tools hierarchies, Food chaining, interactive metronome, and more. Help Me Sign classes are available for parents and children of all ages. They maintain state of the art techniques and training through attending cutting edge continuing education courses.

One of their newest expanded programs is Help Me Eat. They help children of all ages to journey through the many aspects of food experiences and learn to enjoy & eat a greater variety of food tastes and textures. Their program is unique since they experience/eat/etc. the foods with each child. Eating can be fun!

Barbara is the mother of 5yr old girl/boy twins. "I love my family and love being able to make them proud of me.", says Barbara. Her twins were 35 week preemies and her daughter is learning how not to be a picky eater. So she can relate to many of the issues that her clients have each day. Barbara says, "Everything that I have learned from my children has helped me to become a better SLP."
