Contestant's Case to Win
This is based on the number of votes received. The Welcome Committee is a newcomer greeting service AND a word-of-mouth marketing company designed to connect newcomers & new homebuyers with local business & professional services. Our FREE welcome visit helps acclimate new families to the area, providing them with important community info, maps, physician directories, coupons, gifts & merchant gift certificates. The Welcome Committee plays a vital role in the growth of our local economy, providing our advertising sponsors a steady stream of new customers, as we influence the shopping habits of more than 200 newcomer households each month. In addition, our personal introductions spotlight area non-profit and civic organizations, promotes fundraising events & helps recruit new volunteers for Meals on Wheels, Guardian Ad Litem, Boy Scouts of America & the American Red Cross, to name a few.
As Welcome Committee celebrates its 10 Year Business Anniversary, I would like to be considered a winner in the "Leading Moms in Business Competition" because I have weathered several storms while simultaneously growing my company (and revenues) each year since its inception. We now serve four counties in the greater Charlotte area.
I employ 9 other moms, who, like me, balance our daily family obligations with work. I enjoy serving as a mentor and role model to budding entrepreneurs through the "Teen Entrepreneur" program at the local high school & volunteer on many chamber and civic committees while raising three terrific kids. In 2006, I completed a book (Home-Based Business: The Complete Guide to Owning and Operating a Successful Welcome Service Business) to help moms throughout the U.S. and abroad launch a welcome service business like the Welcome Committee in their communities, so they too can find balance, harmony and prosperity in their lives.
We are very proud & honored to have been selected recently for several regional & national awards. In 2007, Startup Nation recognized Welcome Committee as a "Top Ten Best Financial Performer." The Charlotte Business Journal ranked Welcome Committee #14 in 2007 and #7 in 2008 in the annual "Top 25 Best Places to Work" in the small business category within the 16-county Charlotte region for keeping employees happy and engaged. Working Mother magazine named Welcome Committee a "25 Best Women-Owned Business" for 2008 due to our flexible schedules, family friendly benefits and dedication to the community. Business Leader Media recognized us an up & coming business leader with a "2008 Mover & Shaker" award.
