I'm in the early stages of developing a business for a web-based live instructional service that will rely upon some form of video-conferencing. I am not, however, familiar with what is needed to integrate video-conferencing into a website (what it costs, what kind of software/server is needed, and what kind of maintenance is required, etc.)

My hope is that someone on this forum can help me out on this matter, or at least point me in the direction needed to properly inform myself.

Here's how it will need to work:

- Users will sign in and be given a list of classes from which they will select one.

- Once x amount of users register for a class they will be placed into a video conference with their instructor.

- The instructor must be able to see all students, and all students should be able to see each other.

Is this something a software company would provide? or is it something that has to be engineered by a web-site developer? Are there web-based services that will 'host' video-conferencing through my site?

I hope this is clear and that someone out there has some advice for me.

Thanks in advance!

There is plenty of software to do with but not really onsite. You are basically just making webinars right? Just use whatever webinar software you want.

There is actually a free video conferencing hosting platform, called GoChat, that will host video conferences through your website. Its completely free and very easy to use and implement. All you need to do is copy and paste a pre-given HTML code into your website source code and a toolbar for the video conferencing automatically shows up.

You can use any of the web conferencing service providers such as webex.com, gomeetnow.com, gotomeeting.com etc to send out invitations to join the webinar / meeting. Alternatively, you can also have on premise web conferencing appliance installed such as rhubcom.com
