Here are a few ideas for you:

1.Make sure your website is SEO friendly (SEO: search engine optimization).  Meta data must be correct and must have keywords in it.
2.Start building a link referral network with others that you cater your service or product to or vendors you work with (have as many QUALITY inbound links that go to your website as possible).
3.Make sure your website is strong with "keywords" about your product or service.
4.Create profiles on local search sites (provide you business address (City & State) and URL on these profiles).
5.Develop a blog on your website (this keeps your website content "fresh" for the search spiders)
6.Start answering posting replies to questions on Blogs that are relevant to your product or services industry (include your business name and URL if allowed in the Blog rules)
7.Start using social networking (Twitter, Facebook, etc) to build up a network of followers or advocates for your product or service.
8.Track all your marketing for a product or service using online coupon codes.  This will allow to to track which marketing efforts are driving the maximum amount of traffic to your website.
9.Try to use very little Flash development in your website.  I go by the old "KISS" rule, keep it simple!
10.Locate a local small print publication and become a "free" contributor to the publication as a column writer and have your URL in your signature line.
11.Write online articles and post them on article based websites.
12.Stay away from "Get Hits Quick" schemes and expensive SEO companies.  These companies should only be paid based on performance and have measurable results.  Watch out for "Black Hat" SEO firms that will place your URL on link-farms.  Learn as much about SEO as you can.
13.Start a Google AdWords campaign and learn how to maximize this tool.
14.If selling a product, consider selling it on eBay, Yahoo Stores, Amazon.  When shipping product to your purchaser, include a thank you note with an online coupon good at your online store with your URL.
15.Make sure you publish your website to Google & Yahoo.  Consider republishing your site every couple of months.

Hope this helps!

Great stuff Ryan. Kudos. To add on I`d suggest submitting your website to social bookmarking sites such as Digg, Delicious, StumbleUpon, Reddit and so forth. I wrote a post giving ten reasons to use online video and submitted it to various bookmarking sites and we got a considerable amount of traffic frrom it within hours. It`s a quick way to share info.

Best,

I think google and yahoo ppr can help more, and you can see the effect quickly, but will cost you much that other marketing method.

SEO is also a good option, but will be a little bit not stable.Backlinks is a no bad option too, which will cost a period to see effect.

Also if you can let us know what kind of products are you selling,we can discuss more.

I actually don't think you should submit your site to search engines.  Sites tend to rank better if they are found naturally when they crawl your site.  Instead, focus on getting backlinks from various sources like directories, social networking sites, forums, etc.  Also, try starting a blog about your business.  I think it really helps because it makes your customers feel more involved.  Plus there are a lot of built-in SEO advantages when you start a blog.

After doing all those organic ways of building traffic and links through backlinking, you have to make sure that you are delivering good and quality service to your customres at all times so that they will come back to you and might be bringing some colleagues and associates to do business with you.
