As an artist, I tried to make money painting portraits but the demand was never enough and it left me often feeling a bit frustrated. I am also a people person and have an entrepreneurial spirit. Six years ago a friend on a super tight budget asked if I could do her daughter's wedding bouquets. Being the gutsy, over-confident artist that I am, I said yes. To my surprise, I enjoyed it and was proud of my creations. Others started asking me to do flowers and soon it became a nice way to earn a bit of money. A year ago I began running an ad on TheKnot.com and my business went from 10 jobs a year to this year already more than 30. I work out of my home but am constantly expanding into all areas of the house, working on new ways to get business, hiring a small staff of wonderful college girls, listing with other websites and magazines, and seeing earnings already of over $50,000 (before expenses). The new ideas and possibilities keep coming and I'm in this all the way. I tell my friends--- I'm on a train I can't get off but I love it.
To me, a wedding is a canvas and flowers are my paints. Although I miss painting at times, I am loving this crazy business because it combines my outgoing personality, my love for young people, my artistic skills and the adventure of owning and running my own business.
