My idea is a simple one and yet represents a profound change in the area of environmental stewardship. I am making and marketing reusable produce bags for consumers to take to grocery stores and farmers markets instead of constantly using single-use plastic produce bags. Many shoppers use as many as 10 plastic produce bags per shopping trip and then throw them away. Plastic produce bags do not break down in landfills and represent a huge amount of our plastic waste. Many people have switched to reusable shopping bags, this is the next step toward reusable. My bags are made from nylon net and have a drawstring opening. Produce is easy to see for check-out and the drawstring keeps food secure during the trip home. I found out quite by accident that my bags are excellent for those who buy their nuts, beans, and grains in bulk as well. I would love to see plastic produce bags in the back corner of the produce sections and reusable the first choice for consumers.
