Contestant's Case to Win

Several years ago new mother and long-time yoga practitioner, Lisa Flynn, noticed that when her toddlers would join her morning yoga practice it was not only fun and natural for them, but seemed to improve their focus and mood as well. While researching yoga for babies, toddlers and older children, she quickly realized that the benefits of yoga can be enjoyed by people of all ages, 3 weeks old to 100+. She went on to search her local area for yoga classes for children and came up empty-handed. Noting the increasing popularity of yoga and organized programs for children and families, the lightbulb came on. ChildLight Yoga was founded in 2005 to encourage an early practice of yoga and relaxation, providing children with a foundation for life-long wellness - body, mind and spirit. The company provides numerous programs for babies, toddlers, families and children, utilizing fun and innovative 'yoga play' techniques, while providing take-home tools for managing stress and anxiety.

With a mission of spreading the gifts of yoga to all children, Lisa quickly diversified the company’s offerings from local classes to preschool enrichment programs, yoga parties, summer camps, school programs, a national teacher training program and various seminars for school teachers, pediatric therapists and counselors. In just a few years, Lisa Flynn and ChildLight Yoga have become recognized and respected names in the yoga industry.

ChildLight Yoga has always been funded solely by its own earnings. An original business approach focused on a 'no-debt' philosophy has helped ChildLight Yoga to quadruple its annual revenues in just 3 years. Rather than opening a studio with a pricey overhead, ChildLight Yoga offers its programs at various studios, centers and recreation departments, paying hourly rent to those facilities as needed. A bonus to this mobile business approach is an ability to reach a wider geographic market. This business model is also ChildLight Yoga's sustainable competitive advantage.

ChildLight Yoga has a salaried Office Manager, in addition to 6 independent contractors, who assist with class and camp instruction. So far, it's an all female team earning reasonable incomes while working flexible schedules that accommodate coveted 'mother's hours.'

An additional source of pride for ChildLight Yoga is its ability and availability to volunteer its services for those who can't afford them, its positive relationships with its clients and vendors, and the many ways the company gives back to its community.

Innovation meets a cultural need, while helping children, families and community. What could be better?!
