Contestant's Case to Win
This is based on the number of votes received and does not reflect the quality of the business.I am living proof that any average Joe can create a website and succeed. My name is Britt Tayor and I am 36 years old, married with 3 kids. Prior to December of 2006, I was working a 9-5 job just like everyone else. I decided I wanted to make an attempt at creating an ecommerce store that could suppliment my income and boy am I glad I did!
I knew a little bit about websites and design and how to get a domain name and hosting but that was pretty much it. I searched for information on how to start an ecommerce business online and paid a few bucks for some video courses and off I went. I decided to sell swords and movie collectibles and created ReplicaDungeon.com in November of 2006. I searched and called suppliers willing to drop ship products for me and launched the site in December of 2006 with around 300 items.
At this point I had a total of 3 thousand dollars invested into my Yahoo store with the design and programming and had an extra 500 dollars set aside for Google Adwords. I setup a quick adwords campaign and in Decemeber, my very first month online, my site sold almost 5 thousand dollars worth of products! In the first month, I was already half way to getting back my investment. Of course I figured this was just holiday luck but I used my profits to add more products and spice up the site with customer features. I worked into the wee hours of the night for most of January 07 and did not spend any money in advertising and the site still generated a little over 2k in sales. By February 07, the site was picking up steam in the search engines with natural traffic and I did almost 4k in sales. In April of 07, I decided to spend some money again for advertising and the site did 9 thousand dollars in sales!
The site took off from there and I have not looked back. In Aug 07, I quit my day job and have been managing my online ecommerce store ever since. The site averages 30k per month each and every month and I am as happy as they come.
If someone had asked me if I thought I could build a website that makes me over 15 thousand dollars in pure profit each month I would have laughed. But now, the dream is a reality and since then, in only 2 years, I am focused on duplicating my efforts.
I deserve to be a winner of the Home-Based 100 Competition simply because if you put your mind to it and actually do it, good things do happen. As with anything, you get back what you put into it.
