This is based on the number of votes received and does not reflect the quality of the business.Zosimos Botanicals handcrafts its exclusive line of green mineral makeup and skincare in a 100% wind-powered workshop. In 2007, Zosimos Botanicals studio utilized 8,640 kilowatt hours of wind energy, the equivalent of eliminating 6 metric tons of CO2! As a green business, our products are handcrafted in small batches using gentle plant-based raw materials to ensure the highest quality. Zosimos is a signatory to the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, a member of Co-op America, the Better Business Bureau, the Indie Beauty Network, the PETA Caring Consumer Program and the Green Products Alliance.
We provide an alternative to mass-produced cosmetics. Our recipes are free of synthetic chemicals such as parabens or other toxins. Zosimos Botanicals only patronizes suppliers that use sustainable harvesting practices, grow pesticide-free plants, and produce Certified Organic ingredients. Our entire product line is ranked by the Environmental Working Group as posing the lowest hazard in the Skin Deep Database. No animal testing is performed by us or our suppliers, a fact recognized by PETA through admission into its Caring Consumer Program. The studio utilizes entirely reused furniture, fixtures and equipment obtained through the Freecycle network.
Zosimos Botanicals LLC is a family business owned and operated in Maryland. Committed to social as well as environmental responsibility, in Summer 2008, we sponsored an Intern from Tanzania through Libertys Promise Opportunities Plus program, which gives young immigrants a chance to explore their talents by exposing them to career possibilities. We educated our community in the Green Zone of the Celebrate Gaithersburg street festival, and will be collaborating with Stacy Malkan, the author of “Not Just a Pretty Face” to provide makeovers to teens at the DC Green Festival in early November.
Zosimos Botanicals annually supports the Poplar Spring Animal Sanctuary, which rescues abused farm animals. The "Living Green" section in the October issue of Scholastic Parent & Child touts our Shimmer Dust as being an all-natural item to stock in your makeup drawer! Zosimos recently sent products to the Breast Cancer Fund to support its Peak Hike event to raise money for Breast Cancer prevention and is currently supporting Morgan State University in its RecycleMania competition by donating a unisex gift basket! We also sent our natural eye pencils to an Arab outreach program which educates woman on the potential poisoning risk from traditional kajul eye liner. Linda, Zosimos' owner, just contributed an article about Freecycle to an upcoming book on "Living Green."
We continually strive to meet the criteria as Greenest Home Based Biz of 2008 and welcome your support!
