About the Winner
This is based on the number of votes received and does not reflect the quality of the business or chances of winning. After a lifetime of working in BigLaw, I became a statistic; a victim of the economy. The odds were against me – I was a ‘mature’, experienced professional looking for a job and competing against equally qualified paralegals, and, as it turns out, attorneys, for paralegal jobs. We all know that prospective employers are not allowed to tell you that you’re ‘too old’ for a job, but they will say that you have ‘too much experience’.
So, in 2008, I took that experience, and packaged it with the chutzpah of a left-handed, red-headed stepchild from Texas and I hung out my virtual shingle as StarrParalegals, LLC.
StarrParalegals uses technology to provide effective, efficient, and exemplary paralegal services to attorneys throughout the US. Our services offer attorneys a cost-effective staffing alternative that decreases their overhead while increasing the value of their billable dollars. An added benefit - working virtually reduces emissions (no more driving to work) and paper waste (all transactions are conducted electronically).
So, here I am - Pamela J. Starr (Pamela, not Pam; no relation to Belle, Bart, Brenda, Ringo or Ken. Okay, yes, Ken Starr* was my father), Virtual Paralegal Extraordinaire, CEO, CBA, J.S.M., Blogger, Speaker, Webinar Presenter, Mentor, Trekkie, A++ Personality, Hebrew/Sunday School Teacher; Amateur Cantor; Mom to two adorable cats – Mr. Sulu and Lt. Uhura (did I mention that I'm a Trekkie?), and MATD Grad Student, with aspirations of developing a successful training program to help, primarily ‘mature’, professionals (like myself) transition out of brick & mortar jobs and into virtual careers. No, I don't actually have a life...
*Not that Ken Starr... :)
