About the Winner
This is based on the number of votes received and does not reflect the quality of the business or chances of winning. "It started with a military permanent change of duty station (PCS). Moving from one duty station to another (three within the last five years) added unique financial pressure. I decided it was time to follow my dreams and put them in place right were I was - at home".
While I made this observation years ago, it was not until eight months past that I really defined how I viewed empty possibilities. I had just returned to the United States after a two-year tour in South Korea as a military spouse. Having to leave employment, pick up roots, and settle in, I applied for and received 120 empty job possibilities. This reflection set the tone and direction for my company, Rendering Threads and today I hope to inspire a new fabrication of military spouses.
My goal is to create better services, whether to develop more effective products that help women in everyday life help them reach every level of their craft ability and potential, or create business opportunities that set Rendering Threads apart from the competition while providing substance to women.
It started with a military permanent change of duty station (PCS). Moving from one duty station to another (three within the last five years) added unique financial pressure. I resolved that it was time to follow my dreams and put them in place right were I was-at home. As a way to create a life that works within this military life, I have moved forward towards that dream and built a company that became Rendering Threads from an empty possibility to an inclusive marketer of handcrafted products, educational materials, and mentoring programs that is unrivaled in the world.
Wives who are constantly in motion due to military moves often experience financial strain, lack of employment opportunities, idleness, and most of all stress. It became clear to me to that specialized services were essential for this excluded population.
I think I should be considered as a winner of the Startup Nation 2012 Home-Based 100 Competition winner because Rendering Threads was founded in 2011 from a one-woman coffee table project, and is now a rapidly growing organization serving customers not only in the United States, but overseas also. With an abundance of knowledge, education, and skill, acquired over the past thirteen years of my military life, I observed a need for services catering to the artistic side of military wives like myself.
