Vera Green Productions is DFW's first wedding planning and design firm to specialize in eco-friendly wedding planning. I think that my company should win this award because we have been blazing trails in our industry.
I always knew that I was better at organizing events than at filing papers. It wasn't until entering the wedding industry full time when I got my calling to stand up and do things a little differently. I'm so lucky to work with such a great and diverse group of women who share my passion and vision for treading lightly and creating memorable events.
I was astounded by the overwhelming amount of waste I experienced in my field. Think of the mess that you have after a night of friends coming over for dinner party, now imagine having 500 friends over for beer, wine, and a sit down dinner. That's a lot of bottles, napkins, food waste, and what not. I realized that there had to be a better way of doing it, and that's how Vera Green Productions was born!
For me sustainable entertaining is about more than recycled paper invitations and organic wine. It's about the process, and being conscious of what goes into and comes out of the event you're planning.
In the beginning of our journey it took a lot of resourcefulness to come up with sustainable alternatives for planning a social function. At that time "green" wasn't a buzzword, and there were definitely not the resources available that there are today. But we are so much more than just a "green" wedding planning company. Aside from being known as a pioneer in the modern green wedding movement, we also pride ourselves in creating memorable events that are cutting edge in design. This is one of the things that place us among the ranks of the industry's elite.
Vera Green Productions is also very dedicated to our community. In the last year I have helped raise over $30,000 for various organizations, which I am proud to boast because a lot of blood sweat and tears has gone into our various projects.
Although we do rent meeting space, 90% of our work is done at home. I am a not only a home based business, but I also have two children who depend on me every day. Two children who are the reason for what I do, and are the driving force for my business and my dedication to living a sustainable lifestyle. I am proud to say that I have a successful business and children who are brilliant, well behaved and healthy . What more could a mother/business owner ask for?
