About StartupNation's Home-Based 100

StartupNation’s Home-Based 100 is more than a ranking. It’s a clarion call, drawing attention to the reality that Home-Based business is not only legitimate, not only here to stay, but is the way of the future for entrepreneurship. Gone are the days of commuting, cubicles and huge capital costs – traded in for a favorite pair of blue jeans, a fast Internet connection, coffee brewing in the kitchen, and some of the smartest and most spirited entrepreneurs in the world … running their businesses from home.

It’s no coincidence that we at StartupNation have long believed that home-based businesses deserve more attention from the media. After all, we ran our business out of a home for eight great years.

Home-based businesses represent approximately 50% of all businesses registered in America. The home is not only a common first frontier for entrepreneurs to start up their dream business, but in many cases it’s their preferred location on an ongoing basis.

In this year’s competition, competitors submitted their businesses for consideration in various 10 Top Ten categories, peers voted for favorites, and now our editorial staff has selected the 100 winners. Some winners appear in multiple categories as the editorial staff saw fit.

Now that they’re published, the winners will be provided a digital winner’s emblem that they can locate on their websites and in their emails indicating their achievement. To further promote the winners, StartupNation has issued a national press release to print, online and broadcast media.

We hope the Home-Based 100 raises the profile of this extraordinary sector of entrepreneurs. Industry leaders like Dell, Microsoft, and a whole slew of others claim “home” as their birthplace. No doubt, some of the most game-changing businesses of tomorrow are growing up today in the garages, kitchens, basements and extra bedrooms in homes across America.
