Some of you already know, I recently made a drastic upgrade of my product offering, and now I`m keen to get a few higher-ish profile sites in my portfolio that utilize the new system.

I`ve identified a few companies I plan to approach but I`m unsure about one of them. It`s a financial services firm that specializes in getting funding for particular sorts of businesses. They`re small but they`ve been around a long time, and claim something like $7 billion in financial arrangements over the years.

But you wouldn`t know it from looking at their website. It completely blows. It looks like a 1997 Frontpage template.

I do not know anyone at this firm personally; I do have the contact info for the managing director, whom I`ve never met, but who is part of an subject-based online networking group I`m in.

How would you handle pitching to this company? An email out of the blue? A phone call? My concern is that I don`t want to violate the etiquette of the networking group.

Your thoughts are appreciated!

How much time does it take to do a fake mock-up for a new landing page for them?  What if you built a new home page, then sent them an email to check it out (on your server of course).  After they read the email, call them to talk about it.
